mother's little helper

If there's a tune I can't get out of my mind today, it's Rolling Stones' Mother's Little Helper. For no other reason than the twist of fate, which has forced me to make a presentation about diazepam, or better known as Valium (wanted to put the little R thing here, but can't be arsed to find out how. Anyway, don't sue me). Yes, that song is about valium. A nice little tune, released as a single in 1966. This song really emphasizes the side of the Rolling Stones that I like. Nice poppy tune, folky chord progression, witty lyrics, and Brian Jones. None of those self glorifying country/blues numbers. If there's something more overrated than Exile on Main Street, I'd like to see it. (Well okay, anything by U2 or Bruce "THE BOSS" Springsteen naturally, but that's not the main point.)

Not surprisingly Valium was quite popular with the musician, seeing that it's also often used to help to lessen the after effects from other drugs such as LSD. Other notable song is Walk On The Wild Side by Lou Reed. Or so Wikipedia said. Other prominent artists to have written a song about this little yellow pill is Belle & Sebastian and Franz Ferdinand.

Apropos Franz Ferdinand, I met Mr. Nick McCarthy not long after Christmas. In the tube. We even went to the same concert. That's not too surprising though, since the band, Kamerakino, is a good friend of Franz. I think Nick played there for a short period of time as well. Nick's wife tagged along too. Stylish lady. Didn't have the guts to say hi to him though I almost did when we met in the loo! Well Nick, if you're reading this, I'm the only Asian that night. If there were more, then I was the one always giving you the knowing look. Knowing or dodgy. It's a matter of interpretation.

Another musician I've bumped into is the guitarist from the Futureheads. Don't really remember his name. I think it's Ross Mallard or something like that. That guy was HUGE and had a Man Utd Magazine in his hands. We were on the same train from Vienna to Munich. (There's some kind of pattern here...) Didn't say hi either. But we exchanged knowing looks. I think.
